A teaching based approach is like guided reading in the elementary schools. Instruction is given on each step of reading paragraphs. There are certain procedures to follow and questions to answer. Vocabulary is given and more details are presented on how to investigate details. This is all good. It is functional and still rewarding as students learn. However, the point of this is- that it is not everything needed in today’s world for the job market that is before us, in the future.
A learning based approach values experimenting, play, and engagement activities. Education involves understanding concepts. A learning based approach values details while everything, including the details change like splitting cells in biology. Learning based approach includes working with complex problem solving. I continue to see where organizational supports are needed for school improvement. Professional Development can be advanced with interactive websites and informational programs within the school, either during school or online.
There are two professional development areas needed at school. These include: School Leadership and Instructional Guidance. This is because of the need to have target goals concerning our program areas. In addition, we need resources to use in research of projects of interest. Our program can be attractive to students, teachers, and parents.
The biggest problem that I currently encounter is that we are teaching online because it is necessary. It may not seem to be a big problem; however, let us take a look at what is going on at home. One teacher has reported that of the 30 students she has, she has only had 6 students turn in online homework. How do we end up still doing classroom management with online teaching? Students can be accountable for their actions. Students still can be provided choices using three groups of Modules, and be accountable for a certain score, for the topic chosen. Students can be given fun activities, such as Doodle Notes, while listening to instruction. Students can still do note-taking. Most of all, educators can develop better relationships with their students, to increase the value of what education offers. Sometimes educators just need more ideas for positive behaviors. That is why Time to Teach and managing behaviors are the foundations, that make a difference. Differentiated Instruction: Engagement and Motivation in Every Classroom, will help teachers and students with different modality learning strengths. Come along with us, make our lives rewarding and powerful, as we learn together, the answers to today’s questions. It will make a difference to the students we teach, as they enter into their future job markets.
